Mixed media on fibro cement board, 45.5 × 66 cm

Private collection

These two collages are a densely layered visual composition created on fibro cement, combining personal photographs, press clippings, and magazine imagery. Although the precise date of creation is unconfirmed, it is believed to have been assembled while Mark “Chopper” Read was incarcerated at Risdon Prison, Hobart and after his release. Read also served time in Pentridge Prison, Melbourne.

The collages incorporates several private photographs, including family images and informal portraits, which provide a contrast to the surrounding press and magazine clippings. One photograph shows Read in his prison cell, situating the work within the context of incarceration.

Held in private collection.
