Collecting Pentridge Prison-related objects was never my intention. Yet, preserving the prison’s history through these physical objects has become a matter close to my heart. Over the years, through many conversations and connections, people have kindly entrusted me with photographs, memorabilia, and items made or used inside the prison.

Together, these gifts have grown into a meaningful collection that tells the human stories of Pentridge Prison’s history.

A few weeks ago, I was offered a space at Pentridge Coburg to safely store and care for these important objects—an opportunity I'm deeply grateful for, as it means these pieces of history can remain close to where their stories began. Though there is no physical museum on site, some of these objects have been and will continue to be displayed from time to time. Currently, a painting by William O’Meally can be seen at Geelong Gaol - The National Crime & Justice Museum.

All items in the collection are being made available online through the Pentridge Prison Online Museum. There, they can be viewed, researched, and appreciated by anyone interested in this important part of Victoria’s history.

The Online Museum also includes objects held by individuals, organisations, and community groups, allowing a broader picture of Pentridge Prison’s legacy to be shared and preserved collectively.

I believe in the power of shared knowledge.

Let’s learn, share, and discover the rich heritage of Pentridge Prison together.
