This wood turned lamp base was created by Pat Atwood in 1970. Atwood ran the woodwork room in A Division.


This lamp won at the Royal Melbourne Show in 1970 in the category "Wooden Article (made with power tools only)".

Royal Melbourne Show

 

The Royal Melbourne Show catalogues record Pentridge Prison as a regular exhibitor, with its first entries appearing in 1968.

 

In 1970, the Pentridge Toymakers submitted 21 entries, competing in a range of categories that showcased the creativity and craftsmanship of prisoners at the time. 

 

The categories were as follows:

 

  • Best Dressed Doll

  • Best Bag Made from Waste Strip Nylon

  • Toy Making: Soft Toy (in Felt); Soft Toy (Other than Felt)

  • Woodwork: Wooden Article (made with hand tools and power tools); Wooden Article (made with power tools only); Decorated Woodwork; Model Ship; Wooden Toy
