"Untitled"
This artwork was given to Peter Ive, a prison officer in A Division at Pentridge Prison.
The painting is signed “J G Cust, Feb 1961".
It measures 22.5 inches high and 18.5 inches wide, and is painted on masonite, a medium commonly used by prisoners.
Research suggests that the painting was most likely created by a non-Aboriginal man.
The imagery may depict ceremonial-style designs associated with the Horsham region, linked to the Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia, and Jupagik Nations.
Held in Chris Ive Collection.
Please get in touch if you have any information on the artist.
